we had been linked long before the inter friendly so maybe it's just paper talk.
i wasn't impressed with his attitude against us, he was bitching most of the time, but he does look dangerous and took his chance well. i would rather see us get a big striker though. for that matter, if martins is a poacher why do they want crespo and not him?? the only thing going for it really is we would likely recoup the money as he is young.

He has the potential to be a great player but I'm not convinced he's the man for us. We need someone who can fill Dimi's boots when he does not play. Are we attempting to acquire the worlds shortest strike force ever?

i wouldnt take him over Mido but if we did sign him it would certainly be direct competition with Defoe

If indeed that is true, it means either JD or Keane will go at a massive price. We can't keep 3 small forwards( a basketball term) happy vying for 1 position.

martins has qualities beyond many strikers he does 100m in 11 seconds and he has good control with his pace aswel as excellent ball control and he is a good finisher, playing and scoring in serie a for a few seasons and hes only 21yrs old european and world cup experience...and hes not that small .. i thout he was a real beanie.. think hes grown a bit and very very powerfully built...kinda yakubu type build... definetly for me worth a look ... but i dont think spurs could temp him...this man would finish off teams.. especially in second half..blistering pace..you can c i like him... c o y spurs ... and make some more brown and gold shirts.....c o y spurs

Yes, I'd love him to come. He maybe could play the left wing too. If he comes I reckon Defoe would be off in January because Martins is Defoe stepped up a class or two.

Did Martins not used to play Left Wing?

Chinaman

If he can play LW, then we should have him, as he can also be the 4th striker when necessary.

Agreed. Defoe is better. **** Martins....he's done nothing to make me think he's great. And out of curiosity; how much would everybody expect for Robbie if he was sold?

There's no way we should sell Keano! He's a very important player, and still young.

I'm not saying we should sell him; Chinaman said in a previous post on this thread that if we signed martins, defoe or keane would probably be sold at a massive price. So I was wondering how much everone thinks we should ask for him?!?

And I think Defoe is very important to us also, it angers me when people say they'd accept his departure. No ****ing way.

oh, okay.. Would expect about the same for any of them. About 15 mill. but if manyoo would pay 18 for carrick maybe we should at least expect 20:p

No-one would buy Keane for alot of money. That's why when linked away he was linked to Everton, for just 6million dollar. Defoe on the other hand would command a high price.

Defoe to Man Utd for £22mm

Chinaman
9th August 2006, 12:39 PM
Let's do the maths here.

22m less 10% as his cut as he has not asked for a transfer will mean 19.8m for us. 15% for the sell-on clause is 3.3m for West Ham will leave us with 16.5m. We signed him for ?6m means that we've made 10.5m. Is that enough to sign someone better or his equal?

Defoe, Keane or Berbatov should not be allowed to leave this club at any price. (Unless it's a stoooopidly large offer) There genuinely are not many (maybe 3, at a push) strikers who I'd rather have than these three.

Chinaman
9th August 2006, 01:46 PM
And one of the three could not be Henry?

Welsh Spur

No way. I was thinking Eto'o.

I could name probably twenty strikers at least I'd take instead Defoe. For example I'd maybe even take Darren Bent or Andy Johnsen ahead of him (they've good movement). And you must be having a laugh saying Defoe is better than Martins. Martins is very incisive and blisteringly quick, he rapes defences with his pace and good movement and he's as good a finisher as Defoe.

I want 20 mil for Keane or no deal, and I probably wouldn't want to sell anyway as to replace him would be very difficult, there are only six at most (Henry, Shev, Roon, Eto, Crespo) better than him or Berb.

I wouldn't like Defoe to leave either, but if they do sign another striker it will be good competition for the others. Defoe is a confidence player and needs a good run in the team to show his worth, but it is only right that each player should earn the right to wear the shirt and Martin should pick the players who are in form. What i would like to see most of all is our left sided problem sorted out.

If it is true that the cartoons are in for him then we'll see what sort of player he is. Now would you prefer to be with a manager who has continuously improved his squad and improved the players he employs or would you prefer to play for a club full of overpaid overhyped mercaneries, whos fans are so blinded by sour tasting northern puddle water that every year they think they will win the league........Oh and whos manager has been employed on the basis he is MAYBE better than Souness, and has no history of being a successfull coach at top level. Sorry for the rant but i cannot stand toon fans who are always bleeting about what great fans they are but are onl ever interested in the quick fix of signing big name players who give the side no balance... they've no idea whatsoever... i mean, who the hell is duff going to be supplying with these killer passes? OWEN?

I understands that you rates Keano much higher then Defoe, but I for sure wouldn't replace defoe with either Bent, Johnson or Martins. Defoe's a top striker and will score plenty of goals this season..

I wonder why you prefer Keane to Defoe?
Andy Johnson???? FFS if I could reach I'd slap your face for saying such a stupid thing. Hard.

Also, if Martins is so good then why do Inter see it neccesary to sign Crespo and Ibrahimovic, thus forcing him out?????

I'll say it again, DEFOE IS BETTER THAN MARTINS.

I stated before in response to the same statement from you that I do not judge players ability based on their nationality. I can't stand players like Gary Breen and the overated Matt Holland.

I only said I'd maybe take Andy Johnsen/Darren Bent instead. And I stated my reasons, as I did in another thread about how I think Defoe is overated.

If you want to address the arguements then do so, because if the best you can come up with is repeating a lame arguement I'd already answered and shouting then you just sound like an immature gooner.

And I'd SERIOUSLY advise against slapping me. Yid or no yid that would be a really bad idea buddy.

Why would you start in-fighting anyway? What, do you want us to be like Newcastle?

Crespo is a better player than Martins, that is why they bought him and Martins knows he'll have trouble being first choice now. Crespo was let go from Chelsea because Drogba is ahead of him in the pecking order (for reasons only known to Mourinho's concept of football). Ibrahimovic is a target man, and usually wouldn't be competing for the same spot with Martins or Crespo (unless perhaps he wants to play two big men). Either way, Martins knows he's going to have a lot of bench time this year if he stays at Inter.

I just love the way people talk the talk from behind their computer screens. A bad idea? Why, what are you, the ****ing IRA or something?

Mate, there's no need to take things so literally, when I said I'd slap your face, I don't mean aggressively, it's like a clip round the head off your old man when you've been bad.

Someone said the other day, you can't even write anything these days without out someone kicking off or complaining.

And just so we're clear, I have no vendetta or problem with you, you are one of the forum's better posters.

See, I told you it was a bad idea.

Hey, I like you too man, but how was I supposed to respond? You said you'd like to slap me hard. I know text is a horrible form of communication in some regards and it can lead to things being taken the wrong way. We could have had it out in the pub while knowing there was no aggro whatsoever.

We're like Rick James and Charlie Murphy, 'Come here the Welshspur... aaagh...

... CELEBRATION...

...BITCHES (clap)... show Welshspur your tities'.

By the way, for those of you who haven't yet seen the Rick James Charlie Murphy video then get your ass down to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SSMxb1lG2Yg , and get ready to see some of the funniest shit you'll ever see.

I'll take this into consideration when I'm posting in future. I didn't think of it like that, now you've explained your side I can understand how it looked from your side of the screen.
