Argentina's final group games come against bottom of the table Peru on 10 October and sixth-placed Uruguay on 14 October.
Massive game coming up and I wouldnt be suprised if Argentina failed to qualify. I've only watched them a couple of times and they were rubbish both times.
You can watch Argentina v Peru sat 11pm SS1.
Ossies thoughts on the 2 games

This scenario is again proving that a great player does not necessarily become a great coach/manager. Same could be said for the likes of Ossie and Hoddle.

I don't know why they appointed Maradona. It seems he was idolised so much and he brought so much success as a player and they've actually had way better groups of players since then (apart from him) that they seemed to think, 'well, bring back Diego'.
I guess they thought his presence would do the same trick, but it doesn't really work like that, does it? Not after a few games anyway. You have to have the chops and the skill set as a manager.
Maradona had one managerial job on his cv, at Boca. He failed there, if I'm not mistaken, and possibly failed badly.
So how can you jump from that to national team manager?

Being a national treasure goes a long way I guess, see Robson, Bryan. To be honest I never saw how Argentina under Maradona could be anything other than a disaster. He's a coke addled, egotistical nut-case.

Egotistical? That's well harsh imo.
You do realise he's the one that has set up players organisations to help his more unfortunate peers who are in trouble etc.
And I've never once heard him say he was the greatest. Pele says it all the time.
Meanwhile Pele wouldn't even help Gaurincha, his former teammate, when he was in dire straits.
I don't like Pele, great player, but a selfish politician, deeply egotistical and arrogant. 'There's only one Pele', f*ck off I'd like to see you win anything with Maradona's 86 Argie team or Napoli.
Pele and Diego don't get on at all, because Maradona says they are apples and oranges and talked about the way instead of putting something back in to the game and society and using his fame and position to help players he is far more interested in himself and becoming a politician.
Maradona is a rebel, he plays for the people. His heart is as wide as his genius was. I love the little f*cker and he was the greatest.

Err... fair enough, but whats that got to do with him being a poor coach?

Well I wonder if half the problems he has as a manager are due to him thinking "I am Maradona, so therefore awesome" and regards himself as more important than the team??

I doubt it to be honest.
They are just two very different jobs and he was a genius at one and the other... not a genius.
Of course, I don't know for sure, but that is from what I know about him and what has gone on.

So lucky!!
with about minute to go a 1-1. 3/4 minutes later argentina make it 2-1 vmaradona goes mental as if he has won the wc when in fact argentina played crap for most of the game. That wasnt the end of it though. Peru nearly scored with basically no time left
Ossie was lost for words.
Argentina will do well to get past the group stages with diego in charge. Should sack him asap.

Argies def going to the World Cup (hopefully without the comical diefo). Uraguay to the playoffs.
Against peru he celebrates like klingsmann and tonight he was going hysterical and started to cry. Someone needs to tell him argentina havent got a chance with him in charge and he should step down asap.

It's a bit harsh to talk about the greatest genius and one of the most inspiring and passionate players to ever play the game that way. It's his passion that made him great. Doesn't it show how much he cares? I love people that care.
If more people loved the game, their country and the people the way he does it would be a better game. We'd also have a better society. Too many people in power only care about themselves.
I doubt he's a great manager either, but let's not forget who and what he is: very special. He's nuts in the best way, pure passion and a heart as wide as the ocean. Watching him play was an experience because he was a God and a lot of that was from his extreme passion too. He played like a man possessed.
He's probably a shit manager, but so what, he probably wasn't made to manage. We are all humans with certain aptitudes. He's been an amazing triumph, which is why his story is so magnetic and fascinating. Would you not agree?
It's not his fault they gave him the job. And maybe he will change it around. You never know.

Dunno, I much prefer the earlier stuff, it's all gone downhill since he married Guy Ritchie...
