Tottenham Hotspur new boy Didier Zokora has his sights set on becoming the latest in the line of great Premiership holding midfielders.

The 25-year-old Ivory Coast international impressed at this summer's World Cup in Germany and earned a lucrative move to White Hart Lane at the same time.

Zokora comes into Spurs' ranks to replace the departed Michael Carrick, who moved to Manchester United last week, but the player hopes to prove himself more than just an adequate stand-in at his new club.

"Roy Keane and Patrick Vieira are the perfect examples of the star players that have played in The Premiership over the years," Zokora told the Sun.

"That is what I really want to be part of because the holding midfield is also my role, and I believe it to be very important because I can win the ball, pass it, tackle and this is vital to the balance of any team."

He will get his first chance to stake his claim for glory in the first game of the new season at Bolton Wanderers live on Prem Plus on August 19.

I would'nt go as far to say the new Spurs Vieira (scum), but new Spurs Mckay absolutely.

I have no doubt that Zokora is a class act , but many holding midfielders with previously touted reputations have been found out by the pace ,tempo and ferver of the Premiership (Kleberson, Djemba Djemba etc.) .

Zokora needs to concentrate on his strenghts and play his natural game. He is very strong , technically excellent but just hope he can let his performances speak for themselves and hopefully stick it to Fabregas and Gilberto at Arseburton Grave.

Zokora will have no problems in this league, it is perfectly suited to his game.

The only way he can be compared to Dave MacKay is for him to also weigh in with 4-5 goals a season.

So he'll never be a MacKay for us, though I would still rate him in the superstar category.
