Rather not spend anything on anyone who's not top drawer. We have enough run-of-the-mill cover for RB position.

Yes, is Lucas Neill going to be better than Salti or Lee? If Lee settles in the prem and is played on the right he'd be dynamite.
In fairness Neill seemed to improve a lot recently, but I can't say I noticed the kind of improvement being touted. And he certainly used to be a bag of shite, I can definitely remember coming to that conclusion.
I too would much rather they buy somebody like Trabelsi, somebody who's going to definitely be top drawer. We already have run of the mill cover.

Could just be speculation by the press.

i know this may sound strange but we have been linked with degen before and i for one think he would be a great signing, and stalteri has been saying how dortmund is his favorite venue in germany, maybe a swap deal could be on the cards, im sure stalteri is aware the fans have no real love for him and maybe be wants a new challenge with another german team.

Salty & Neill on the right
Ekotto & Lee on the left
Good competition and would help keep each other on their toes. If Ifil was as good as some people think he is then we wouldn't be in the market for a RB, we'd be rotating him with Salty.
Another plus with Neill is he's a big strong guy and can cover at CB too which would be very helpful and when we're playing the scum we could get him to take Henry out in the first 5 minutes.

i think the cover at centre back is the appeal, especially as he's played in the prem and will come fairly cheap. he's no worse than bambi or salty. lets hope he's a bit better. trabelsi was alledgedly in talks with citeh last week.

I thought it had been reported that Trabelsi had been quoted as saying he already knew where he was going after the World Cup ?

yeah he said that in january. i can't think it was man city unless he's insane. maybe it was one of the italian clubs that's got shafted.

You guys must be kiddin, Lucas Neil had a better world cup than all of the England players all squashed together! He would be a great addition to our squad. He is a great player!

He had a decent World cup, never rated him for Blackburn though I don't think he is any better then what we allready have.

i think Lucas Neill is an excellent centre-back, a strong, hard-hitting player who's not afraid to get stuck in but im not so sure about him at RB. maybe i havent seen enough of him but imagine him making bursting runs on the break and delivering telling crosses like Chimbonda did for Wigan last season. also he gets himself in the book far too much and this will become even more apparent next season in europe with the difference in refereeing on the continent

Didn't he give away the penalty that got them knocked out, jumping in recklessly when he should have kept his feet. Not good enough, poor disciplinary record, forget it.

Hate to point this out but Neil is a rightback by trade. He has played righback for Millwall and Blackburn for years and is the regular Aussie rightback. He's a thug, plain and simple and can be evidenced from the two English teams he has represented, not exactly renowned for their delicate approach to the beautiful game are they? And Neil is always talked of as the worst exponent.
I would prefer to play Stalty at rightback, he may be no good but he's not a scumbag.

i know he's a right back by trade but when ive seen him he's been at centre back and he has always impressed he although i think it may have something to do with Mark Hughes who has got the best out of him, the other coaches he has worked with (bar Guus Hiddink of course) havent really done a lot with him which is why he's only starting to show promise at about 27

I thought Pamarot was an excellent defender, hard as nails, but unfortunetely eustace on the ball. I actually thought he might be a good centre back, because he's a natural defender (he's maybe a bit too small though). I wanted him out of the team pronto as I did Atouba.
Jol as usual is not afraid to make necessary changes, and sold them. Good signing for portsmouth though.
In fairness Neill is good on the ball and well hard, but I'm not sure he's much of a progression or even a progression at all.
I could possibly see him do really well for us though, he's a determined character.

The problem apart from not being any better then what we have,is that he lunges into to many bad tackles and because of that could be a liabilty.

What he did at the WC just smacks of a defender who is inexperienced, and lacks the know-how to succeed at the top level. He regularly gets sent off in the prem, too.
Seriously, last minute of the game, and you give away a penalty. FFS. Stay on your feet and hack the ball anywhere....there's one minute left! Christ. What a ****ing idiot. The Aussies shouldn't have got that far anyway.
