The sun are running the story about Krancjar... Yeah, yeah, rag gossip... but they have quotes from Harry saying he's delighted its done!
Also, Berba says we're a bigger club than City and that Petrov should sign for us.

It may be sour grapes but many a Pompey fan are saying that while when he plays well, he plays very very well, but most of the time he's lazy. Also his best position is behind the strikers. So basically he's very similar to Modric, only bigger so should provide a solution across the midfield. At only 25 he's still got the best days of his career ahead of him and at £2.5m it seems like daylight robbery.
I'm not convinced he'll be a first team player (is he really any better than O'Hara in that respect?) when we have a fully fit midfield to choose from, but again we've added quality strength in depth to the midfield, which is what I've been concerned about for a long while now.

I am really surprised we are not bringing in a central midfielder...or at least cover for Wilson. Starting to wonder why we let Ohara go on loan...he could of covered for Wilson in the centre...Jamie is much better in the centre than on the left. Knew we would sell Chimbo and Boateng but the loaning of Ohara indicated to me that we would be bringing in another central midfielder, either to partner Wilson or at the very least cover for him. JJ and Hudd doesn't inspire me with much confidence...they both need Wilson to be half decent.
If anything happens to Wilson, much like has happened to Luka we are well short in the gritty player department.
Unless Harry has been reading on this forum and Corluka will cover for Wilson.

I can't believe Everton signed Heintinga.:dong: Great deal for them and imo Dunne for Villa is a great bit of buisness.
Sky sports are fvcking dumb, JOH shouted "Were signing Zidane" and they fell for it. They even took it so seriously that they reported that he won't be coming.:001_rolleyes:

Supposedly Pompey were only willing to lash out 4m for KPB if they could get JOH on loan, and the money was too good to turn down. Apparently the club also had over 7,000 emails from fans willing to drive KPB there!

I think Harry has missed his first trick at the end of this window. He needed cover for Wilson. I don't know why he is obsessed with stockpiling more centre halfs as when you compile a squad it is for the whole season and 4 centre backs plus Hudd and Charlie is enough. If you get injuries then they will come back and you use the replacements in the meantime.
Better to use your resources more efficiently and thinking about the long term as opposed to panic buying.
Maybe he was thinking of using Ledley in midfield when Wilson is out but I don't know how Ledley would fare in midfield these days with his knees when there is so much non stop action in there.
And perhaps I haven't seen enough of Kranckar but is really good enough to solve our current midfield issue and be the final piece of the jigsaw when Modric is back?

I think cover for wilson would be either tom or jj in the mean time. Either one will partner wilson and my guess is harry is looking for the perfect partner for wilson but hasn't found him yet. Joh will be back by jan so we are ok especially when you think we arent in europe this season.
Krancjar is competing for a first team place on either wing, when mod and lennon are fit he won't play. But when mod is out he will slot in. I think if bentley is still here then he will cover lennon. But I don't believe nico is the final piece in the jigsaw, I think another cm who is just as good as wilson will be the missing link.
2.5m is a good bit of buisness for a player who harry knows and is 25 years old.
Triffic.

Harry probably sees your last paragraph as an option. Kranjcar can cover right across midfield bar Palacios's role. So its more than conceivable that he looks at putting Modric in the centre and Kranjcar on the left. If that doesn't work, Modric stays left and Kranjcar is good cover - or perhaps can fill the role beside Palacios. If Kranjcar proves to be a really good signing it could prove to be a masterstroke by Harry given the options and flexibility our midfield would boast. Time will tell but if Harry has got this right, he may have solved another piece of the jigsaw for chunk change. Only thing hanging is real cover for Wilson.

Cover and/or a partner for Wilson is still required, but another CB is just as important as well. Charlie and Tom simply aren't CB's. Vedran can't deal with strikers movement in the box, and while Tom started as a CB, he doesn't have good enough positional sense, tackling or ariel ability to cut it. Bassong was vital, but with King and Woody's fitness looking increasingly wobbly these days, we needed one more to go with Seb and Daws. Especially as those guys, while still good, aren't in our two first choice defenders class.
King wouldn't be able to cope with DM these days, his knees (or where they used to be at least) would swell up to the size of a watermelon by half time)
Krancjar is a good versatile player who can play across the midfield really, but (repeating myself from another thread) he isn't as good as our first choice midfield when all fit. And I include JJ in that.

I know what you mean about the CB problem, however its a tricky one. Ledley is Ledley so we all know his position. Woody and Daws will work there way back to fitness and of course we have Bassong. Now lets assume Daws, Woody and Bassong are all fit (this time next month, say) and Ledly can strut his stuff for once a week, what other CBs out there would actually want to join, knowing full well when everybody is fit there is going to be serious competetion for 2 starting places? Thats the problem right there. This is the first serious injury Woody has had since he came here, which is quite impressive considering his history. When Daws and Woody return, and Ledley does his thing and Seb improving along the way - where's the room for someone else. Say for instance we had managed to sign an Upson yesterday, you could of bet your last dollar that somebody, most likely Dawson, would of been surplus to requirements and shifted out in Jan - why would he want to stay as fourth or fifth choice for the long term? The fact that Dawson and Woody will be fit long before the next window suggests we wont making any moves for CBs in Jan unless the crisis holds up unless Harry's wants an upgrade.

Considering his track record before he has done fantastic for us on that front, especially when you look at how many games we had last year.
I've always maintained you can't count on woodys fitness ever, he is due back this month so I'm told but even then our medical staff are not sure if its the right precedure.

Yea, it's enough for me, you are only stockpiling to many with more and you would have to get rid, every team faces injuries. Four very good ones is enough in anyones squad and do think Charlie or Hudd would improve at cb if called upon as things settle down generally with our defending.
I would advise top ones in reserve with the Ledley situation as opposed to your normal cover and we have that.
My worry is when Wilson is out, that could ruin us.

If he was out for any significant lenth of time it could be fatal. The odd game here and that wouldn't be to bad.
Lets be honest though he needs to play at least 30 of the 38 league games for us to have any chance of top 4.
