View Full Version : Ronaldo to Spurs!

There's a rumour going around that Cappello doesn't like Ronaldo's attitude already and that he's going to leave. The next part of the rumour is that spurs are interested. This isn't a solid rumour, but it is something which is being said in Madrid. Maybe it's a load of old cobblers.
He's fat, a crock after injuries and lazy, but he's still one of the most talented players who ever played the game. He'd still guarantee a lot of goals, so would he be a good signing?
Of course if he is for sale he'd probably choose any club who'd offer him 100,000 a week... so it's unlikely that we could get him anyway.
He's the type of guy who could be written off though and re-born at spurs. Sometimes players who've shown great ability before start to flourish again at the lane, think David Ginola. Just a thought.
Personally, I think it would be a big risk, but maybe one worth taking. It is Ronaldo after all.

No to Rotundo.

we've been linked with him before and i think he would be a great signing but only if he wanted to come to spurs. if he come to us because nobody else wanted him or we were offering the most then that attitude could rub off onto some of our other players which we do not want.

I would have to say yes but only a 'pay as you lose a pound of fat' basis. His pay would only kick in once he lost the weight.

Sign him up quick. If MJ can't turn him around, no-one can - notice how Mido can't get a club now...

Having Porkie is not enough weight about us? He'll have to lose a stone and a half to fit the doorframes.

Ronaldo definitely isn't the answer, he is a quarter of the player he once was. We must stay away from has-been players to move ahead with our ambitions of the club.

I think it would be one of those signings that most fans would not welcome at first but has the potential to become one of the greatest coups ever. No-one has scored more goals in World Cup Finals but then Iker Casilias covered more square inches of pitch than Ronaldo last season! Its not an area we are seeking to strengthen but it could be a catalyst signing. Im not fussed either way which is how i think most fans would view it - total apathy. Is this the same as "morientes to spurs" and "Guti to spurs" - pure baseless speculation.

Be great to see him in a Spurs shirt(XXL OF COURSE)even if we only got
20 games a season out of him he must still have something to give, imagine
what the younger players could learn from him. Unfortunatley couldn't see it
happening. Wouldn't surprise me if Newcastle offered him 100k a week and at this stage of his career he wouldn't be worth breaking our wage structure for.
Reminds me of when we were linked to Rivaldo.

we're also been linked according to goal.com to Ibrahimovic who wants to leave Juventus

Fat boy won't come, but I would happily have him here, what a forth striker, once the best playeri n the world. There's no reason he can't rekindle his form

Would say yes too.. If he can get his old form back, he's the best striker around..

If he showed he was making a concious effort to get fit and back on top of his game again, then yeah i would have him. Some of the goals he scored in the WC despite being clearly nowhere near the right level of fitness just showed the natural scoring ability he has.
The condition he's in now though, he would die in the premiership.

I think one 'galactico' in our team is enough....and Davids already fills the position. Unless Ronaldo wants to fight him for it, of course.....
....but would you fight the pitbull?
onthejazzin77

I would fight Edgar Davids - I would win by steaming up his goggles, spinning him around and kicking him up the arse to that music used in Benny Hill.

3rd August 2006, 02:01 PM
If he didn't even have the incentive to get fit for the WC, I doubt very much he'll have it for anything less. Don't think he'll everget back to the level he once was. And if he does, he'll be too expensive for us anyway.

An interesting array of responses. Can't say I disagree with any of you.
But my point is imagine if Jol took a trip to Madrid, and himself and Capello were looking at Ronaldo through a see-through mirror eating his third helping from the buffet. Both would be disgusted of course, but maybe the two men would see him very differently. Capello would maybe see him as a lost cause... but perhaps Jol could still see the talent that could be brought out again.
And then maybe he could snap him up on the cheap... and use his people skills to get Ronaldo fit and back to the best striker in the world again! Wouldn't it be worth the risk? At worst it would still raise the excitement and esteem of our squad, the way the siging of Davids did, wouldn't it? And imagine what the other players would learn from him, he's has done it all. The only bad thing I can see would be potentially vicious fights at the buffet with Andy Reid.

If he was available, We would have to sign him and he would be our number one striker no problem. The man is class. A bit overweight yes, but still would terrorise defences over here.

Definately. His athleticism is down the bog, but his finishing is as potent as ever. The goal he scored in the wc from about 20 yards out, inside of the right boot, round the keeper into the bottom corner. It was the finish of a natural goalscorer.
The question remains... would his ability be enough to carry him through the premiership in the shape he is in at the moment?

So Jol would be impressed by the talent in his jaw after seeing he has the stamina to munch through a 3rd helping from the buffet.

Completely agree, the only potential nightmare scenario is if he impacts squad morale in a Raul stylee, but I don't think MJ would take any of that shit.

Yes, he might be thinking, 'This guy is now channelling all his talent into food eating... if we could just get him to channel it back into football'. :D

No, two of the modern day legends, Ronaldo and Davids, in the same Spurs team....a few years ago my then school mates would have laughed in my face even at the prospect of it! Doesn't seem so far-fetched now though, does it?

If we could have both Davids and the real Ronaldo of a few years back, and if Bleat did not turn down the chance of signing Zidane, we would have won the CL. Agree?

His agent came to us offering him, and Bleat said he's not good enough. And to have the curb crawler running things at this club for so long. Just wonder how many other good players he turned away.

You want to hear one of the Irish commentors. His name is Stephan Ailken, he's ****ing hilarious. He get so many things wrong its incredible he's still got a job, it's probably just because he's popular for it now.
Some of his ones include calling mailby mailbu and pedro mendes sergio mendes. If you remember that last minute wonder goal last year by mendes, Stephen Ailken shouted pedro mendes the first time and then shouted sergio mendes after that another three times.
During the WC there was a huge technical problem at the start of one of the matches Stephen Ailken was commentating on, and but he was still on audio some of the time (knowing him he probably had the mike turned on by accident). Anyway he's kind of an Irish redneck, and he started bitching and getting really agitated, 'Jesus Christ, you'd think in this day and age...', 'Stephen, were back on in three seconds', still pissed and agitated 'Thank God for that!'. Aw stop, he's priceless.

I would think Ronaldo would want a minimum of 100,000 a week to play, that would upset all the players, his strolling around and not making the play would upset the team morale even worse, not a good move.

I agree mate but the wage structure at spurs is so that we wouldn't
allow him to be on 100,000 a week
(i think King is the highest paid on 50 grand a week)

For a man associated with Spurs for many years and employed by them I found it strange and uncomfortable listening to Pleat's commentary on Arsenal's CL flukey run last season. The man is extremely irritating and should have been left in the 80s. He is terrible at trying to make sense of what he is saying.
