Most players above 6'4" are poor in the air, Carew being one notable exception.

I thought we looked much less of an attacking threat when Keane went off and Crouch came on.

If you're that tall its not a skill you ever work as as a kid - you just get loads of headers and get some right.

It's like why is Huddlestone such a crap physical prescence. He's said himself - its not a part of the game he's ever tried to improve on.

Can't believe how much people are raving about Carlton Cole after one half decent peformance against Holland reserves, forgetting the fact that he's pretty much crap week in, week out.

crouch came on because keane was knackered had run himself into the gound...and i was a period in game when players were gonna be getting tired ..was a hot afternoon.

Crouch gave us/gives the option given the right delivery to ease pressure..

a couple of times gomes kicks up front towards end of game were poor...not slating him but he kicked to defoe rather than crouch...who had made some space and could have held it up....instead it came straight back...I think we just need to know how to use him...and deliver 'flatter' crosses..he's pretty good at getting in front of defenders and if he does with his height he will always get there first...from a standing jump..he has no natural spring....

get him in the box...whip those pacy balls in..and with his long legs he will steer a few goalwards.....

There was a point where Crouch was in acres of space on the left side of the final third, yet he tried to cushion the ball with his head to another player... who wasn't there. He seemed to gesture "where were you?!" but my question would be, with that time and space why didn't you bring it down and look for the pass rather than just assume someone was there?

Picking but it gave possession away near the end of the game when Liverpool were pressing. Bad decision.

I'm not slating Crouch here (ie, its not his fault) but with a player of that height and presence on the pitch; automatically the dynamics of the game change.

Originally we were playing the ball to feet from start till when Keano came off and quite frankly that worked brilliantly. It was great to see them two link up well.

Automatically, the game does change into a route 1: hit it to Crouch, lay off to Defoe ball game. Which does work in some cases and probably would of against the Scousers if he had started. Give him his due, he worked hard while he was on and hurried there shaky defence.

Crouch is a very skillfull player (you might laugh) for a person of his height. He has pretty quick feet and can get into the box if theres a decent cross, so I dont see any problems in the future. Start him against Hull and see what happens.

Carlton Cole: Not a bad player by any means, hes just on form. Once that dips again he'll be back to square one. Not worth even a punt. Let the pikeys keep him.

That tactic is fine against a relatively un-technical defence (see Mido -> Keane against Fulham a few seasons back) but Liverpool can soak that sh1t up all day, they've had that much experience against the likes of Chelsea, Milan etc in the Champions League.

So yeah, using our technical players such as Luka, Aaron and Robbie to play our way into chances is the only way to go to really get anywhere.

As for Cole, he looked a player and a half against Holland, and he bagged 12 goals in a realtively shit side last season. Hmm, he's probably as good as Crouch(?!)
